1. The territory of Dubai was first mentioned in the Book of Geography by the Andalusian-Arab geographer Abu Abdullah al Bakri in 1095. By the late 1500s, Dubai was well-known among traders and merchants for its pearl trade.
2. Dubai was officially created in the early nineteenth century, but it was dependent on Abu Dhabi until 1833. The sheik of Dubai signed the General Maritime Peace Treaty with the United Kingdom on January 8, 1820. The treaty provided Dubai and the other Trucial Sheikhdoms with British military protection.
3. The United Kingdom opted to terminate the treaty with the Trucial Sheikhdoms in 1968. As a result, on December 2, 1971, six of them, including Dubai, founded the United Arab Emirates. Throughout the rest of the 1970s, Dubai began to expand significantly as a result of revenue from oil and trading.
4. Today, Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the two most powerful emirates in the UAE, and as such, they are the only two with veto power in the country's federal assembly.

Following the expansion of Islam in the region, the eastern Islamic world's Umayyad Caliph invaded southeast Arabia and drove out the Sassanians. Several artifacts from the Umayyad period were discovered during Dubai Museum excavations at Al-Jumayra (Jumeirah).

Dubai, one of the world's fastest-growing economies, is expected to have a gross domestic product of US$107.1 billion in 2014, with a 6.1% growth rate. Although several key components of Dubai's trade infrastructure were constructed based on the oil industry, revenues from oil and natural gas account for less than 5% of the emirate's total revenue. Dubai is anticipated to produce 50,000 to 70,000 barrels (7,900 to 11,100 m3) of oil per day, as well as significant volumes of gas from offshore fields. The emirate accounts for around 2% of overall UAE gas revenues. Dubai's oil reserves are severely depleted and are predicted to be depleted in 20 years. The Globe Islands are a group of small artificial islands built in the style of a world map in the Persian Gulf, 4.0 kilometers (2.5 miles) off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  The World Islands are one of the numerous artificial island projects in Dubai and are made primarily of sand dredged from Dubai's shallow coastal seas.

The Dubai Miracle Garden, a 72,000-metre (236,000-foot) floral garden, opened on 14 February 2013 in Dubailand. It is the largest floral garden in the world. The garden contains over 50 million flowers and over 70 species of flowering plants. The garden watered the plants with reclaimed wastewater from the city's municipality and a drip irrigation system. During the summer months of late May to September, when temperatures can reach 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit), the garden is closed.

The Dubai Marina neighborhood is located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is a man-made canal city developed along a 3-kilometer (2-mile) section of the Persian Gulf coastline. It has a population of 55,052 people as of 2018.
