In both the public and private sections of the Palace, there are various majlis, or seating places. Sheikh Zayed routinely hosted members of the local community, tribal leaders, and international visitors from outside Abu Dhabi at his majlis, which is why one majlis contains western-style furnishings.

Elders or tribal elders would lead the conversation in a majlis, while younger guests would listen intently. The majlis is where traditional customs are passed down to future generations.

A big tent, which was the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's favorite venue to entertain guests, is an essential element of the Palace. Although a modern tent has taken its place, the tent harkens back to ancient Bedouin customs. Tents are originally made of camel hair and are known as Bait Al Shi'ir. Poetry was frequently recited and enjoyed during such tent meetings.

Traditional gahwa (Arabic coffee) is made by combining roasted and ground coffee beans with boiling water. When visitors arrive, the brewed coffee is transferred into a smaller pot, and spices such as cardamom, saffron, or rose water are added to enhance the flavor and scent. The coffee is then poured into a dellah, which is held in the server's left hand. Coffee is provided to seated visitors beginning on the right side of the room and progressing to the left. The coffee is served in a little cup known as a finjan, which is only half-full to allow the coffee to cool quickly.

The Palace contains unique chambers near some majalis that are only used for brewing gahwa or Arabic coffee.

The traditional approach of using wide and long verandas assisted in cooling the air outside the Palace rooms and shielding them from direct sunshine. Verandas are open walkways or porches with a roof.
